Demographics and Overall Survival Pattern of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia in a Tertiary Hospital in South-South Nigeria: The Calabar Experience

Background: Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a bi- or triphasic disease comprising of the chronic phase (present at diagnosis in approximately 85% patients) which can easily be controlled with conventional chemotherapy, followed by unstable accelerated and terminating blastic phase. The treatment CML has evolved over years availability tyrosine kinase inhibitors distinctly changed course for patients Ph+ and/or BCR-ABL1+ (CML). This study aims to determine demographics overall survival patterns University Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH)l.
 Methods: retrospective twenty-two (22) seen managed UCTH from June 2014 August 2021. Male/female distribution was 9/13, median age 42 years. Overall (OS) progression free (PFS) were determined using Kaplan-Meier techniques. data analyzed Microsoft Excel 2016 IBM SPSS version 21.
 Results: Total 22 8-year-period review. mean 42.63, 42, modal 37 respectively. There 9 males 13 females. 20 while 2 presence mutation two remaining showed no mutation. Of patients, 6 dead 16 are alive time period ranges 12 84 months. distributions state (chronic blastic) not statistically significantly different, X2= 3.204, p = 0.073.
 Conclusion: inconsistency demographic pattern leukaemia our environment. Further needed identify factors help improve
